Retreats & Events

Group events at Stibal Barn in Southwest Montana

We use the land for a variety of retreats focused on personal development, wellness, low-stress stockmanship, and educational experiences around regenerative agriculture on working landscapes. Our mission is to offer lodging and nourishing farm to table meals to groups promoting a deeper understanding of the wellness of the land and humanity. JbarL offers a uniquely beautiful setting that is particular conducive to personal growth and expanding perspectives. It is our honor and privilage to be able to steward and share such a magical place.

Current Offerings -- Each year we design a handful of specialty weeks for our guests as an opportunity for them to learn, grow, and connect on this landscape.  In the past offerings have ranged from photography retreats, birding groups, horsemanship clinics, personal improvement seminars and more. Stay tuned as we continue to grow our offerings! Below are the events we are booking for 2022:

  • Full Ecology - June 19-23, 2022

    JbarL Ranch

    ~June 19-23, 2022~

The Full Ecology of getting clear in wild times

Five perfect days in one of the most wildly glorious, yet little-known landscapes in America.

Welcome to summer solstice in the Centennial Valley. Located at the sweeping western edge of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, this is the perfect place not just to be inspired – but also, to let this remarkably lively landscape help you discover what it means to really thrive. This is the place where, in the 1930’s, trumpeter swans were brought back from the brink of extinction. You’ll be watching them from your cabin on the JbarL Ranch, floating like tiny puffs of cloud down the meandering Red Rock River. Nearby will be dozens of other flyers, too, together forming one of the most diverse bird congregations in the Rocky Mountains. Then, joining all those birds, in turn, are wolves and bears and moose, river otters and pronghorn and elk.

This is an intimate retreat for just 8-12 participants*. With long, sun-drenched nature walks, thought-provoking conversations and writing prompts, storytelling, and chances for deep silence and solitude.

This will be a time restore your relationship with the life around you.

And as you experience that restoration, it will be a time for learning to use the wisdom it holds both to gain energy, as well as to guide you back to your deepest, truest self.

From Covid to climate change, social injustice to political unrest, it’s been a trying, even exhausting couple of years. But don’t forget: One of the reasons you sometimes feel at wit’s end is because of how deeply you care. Next June, in the magnificent Centennial Valley, that care will be celebrated and strengthened – becoming the medium by which you’ll discover new insight and vigor for the journey ahead. A chance to energize your life by reclaiming the fullness of your human nature.

  • Ranch to Table | Ranch Tour & Tasting - 2022 TBD
Come visit our HQ in Melville, MT to learn about regenerative agriculture and how we manage our land and herd to improve soil health. Join us for a tour with our Ranch Managers, Andrew & Hilary, and enjoy a tasting of our grassfed beef after! This will be a ticketed event and require bringing your own transportation for the tour portion. Please let us know if you would like to be put on our interest list -- we look forward to sharing what we are learning as we steward our land and animals and do our best to co-exist and impact the greater ecosystem for good

Interested in hosting your group/workshop at the ranch? -- We would love to host your next retreat or gathering. J Bar L's Centennial Valley ranch can house up to 30 people across our entire Centennial Valley ranch, though most groups opt to stay across our Smith House and Brundage Cabins. The Stibal Barn is our centrally-located gathering place offering a comfortable dining and meeting space for our groups. The Stibal Barn lends itself equally to a seated 4-course meal as it does a casual BBQ on the lawn overlooking the Red Rock River. Please contact Paige Pitzer at [email protected] for more information and booking schedule.
