Introductory

Low-Stress Livestock Handling

with Whit Hibbard

August 23rd - 26th, 2024

This clinic is a two-day (plus an arrival + departure day) classroom introduction to "low-stress livestock handling" (LSLH) which is a particular form of stockmanship developed and popularized by Bud Williams. The clinic is an information-packed PowerPoint and video-based presentation that answers three basic questions: What is low-stress livestock handling? Why is it important? and How do we do it?

To that end, topics covered in the class sessions include its origins, a comparison of conventional versus low-stress handling, benefits, foundations (i.e., mindset, attitude, reading, working with and preparing animals, principles and techniques), and practical applications (i.e., driving, corral work, crowd pens, chute work, scale loading, and loading out).

The objective is to give attendees enough of an understanding of LSLH that they can go home to their respective outfits and successfully apply it.
