The Smith Place
Built in the 1920s and renovated from its previous incarnations as a school house, homestead and hunting cabin, this spacious three-story rental has fabulous views in all directions of five different mountain ranges. Just outside the door is Long Creek, which has great brook trout fishing 5 miles up the Ruby Road. In addition, the famous Ruby River is just over the hill and offers spectacular fishing for rainbow, cutthroat and brown trout as well as native grayling.
The Smith Place is run on solar power, with a generator for backup. Each of the three bedrooms has great views and a private bath. The upper-level room has a king-sized bed, one bedroom on the second story has a queen bed and the other bedroom has a full and a twin-sized bed. There is a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, living area, laundry facility and a half bath downstairs. Board games, books, magazines, cards, hiking maps and a DVD player with a DVD library are available.
A short drive up the road takes you to the beautiful Beaverhead National Forest, with its hundreds of miles of hiking trails and abundant wildlife. Guests are welcome to use the hot tub at ranch headquarters. Because of its proximity to the J Bar L ranch headquarters, this is the home we use most often for our Working Ranch guests.
